HISTORY

1917 Nippon Felt Co., Ltd. is founded in Ojimachi, Tokyo.
Upon the outbreak of World War I, the Japanese paper industry faced a supply crisis of paper-making felts, which at that time was heavily dependent on overseas imports. As such, Nippon Felt Co., Ltd. was founded with capital amounting to one million yen on June 30, 1917 at 208 Aza-Oji Ojimachi, Kita-Toshima-ku, Tokyo, according to the requirements by parties related to the paper industry, including paper-making companies such as Oji, Fuji, Karafuto, and Mitsubishi.


1919 Oji Mill opens.
Oji Mill was constructed and began operations in 1919. After that, manufacturing facilities were expanded from time to time and by 1937 the Mill supplied 70% of the demand for domestic paper-making felts.

1942 Nippon Felt merges with Tokyo Mofu Inc. and acquires Ichikawa Mill.
In 1942, Nippon Felt merged with Tokyo Mofu Inc., which was in the same line of business and also acquired Ichikawa Mill. Nippon Felt then merged with Nippon Tokushu Keori Inc. and acquired Gifu Mill in 1943. Then in 1944, Gifu Mill was transferred to another company in accordance with the Japanese Navy.

1949 Per the Enterprise Reconstruction and Reorganization Law, Ichikawa Mill is separated from Nippon Felt and becomes Ichikawa Co., Ltd.
Ichikawa Mill was separated from Nippon Felt in accordance to the Enterprise Reconstruction and Reorganization Law. Ichikawa Co., Ltd. was then established in 1949 as a secondary company based on this mill.

1961 Saitama Felt Co., Ltd. is established.
In April 1961, Saitama Felt Co., Ltd. was established as a subsidiary and began operations at 88 Haramamuro, Konosu-shi, Saitama-ken, Japan in December of the same year.

1968 Taiwan Felt Co., Ltd. is established in Taiwan as a Taiwanese-Japanese joint venture.
Taiwan Felt Co., Ltd. was established as a Taiwanese-Japanese joint venture in Taiwan in September 1968 and started operations at the beginning of 1970.

1969 Nippon Felt merges with Saitama Felt and acquires Saitama Mill
On April 1, 1969, Saitama Felt Co., Ltd. was merged to establish Saitama Mill.

1988 Kurobane Felt Co., Ltd. is established.
In April 1988, Kurobane Felt Co., Ltd. was established as a subsidiary company and began operations one year later.

1990 Oji Mill is closed.

1995 Kurobane Felt Co., Ltd. is dissolved; as of April, it becomes Nippon Felt's Tochigi Mill.
Kurobane Felt Co., Ltd. became Tochigi Mill under Nippon Felt in April 1995.

1996 The headquarters of Nippon Felt moves from the Marunouchi district to Akabane in Tokyo.
