BLANKETS FOR SHOE PRESSES
Shoe Press
The
dewatering ability has been neatly improved. It differs from former roll
presses, by substituting a wide nip for the lower roll of the shoe press
and applying longer nip residence time.
At the beginning, shoe presses were used for the production of paperboard grades, e.g., corrugated paper, but in recent years it has been widely used for paper grades, e.g., newspaper. Also, owing to the improvement of the closed type shoe press, the scattering of lubrication oil has been prevented and the shoe press can be used in the upper part of the roll, too.
Blankets
Felt cannot run on a loading shoe because the felt side of the shoe is a concave-shaped stationary system. However, the felt can run by putting a blanket with a very smooth surface on its shoe side. Lubrication oil runs between the shoe and the blanket.
Fundamentals of blankets:
- Flatness of shoe side
- High strength to MD/CMD directions
- Impermeability (oil and water)
- Crack resistant property
- Wear resistance
Construction of blankets
Nippon Felt has been offering blankets which are essential together with felts for shoe presses. The following two types of urethane resin coating surfaces on the felt side of the blanket are available according to customers' requests:
